Hyundai recently released one of the more unique new cars for sale in a segment known for unique cars. The 2011 Hyundai Veloster which combines the words 'Velocity' and 'Roadster' into a single word nobody can seem to agree upon pronouncing even at your local Hyundai dealer. For our money Vel-ah-ster seems to be the proper phrasing.
Even the vehicle itself is a bit divided. Literally. On the driver side you have a two door coupe roadster, on the passenger side, a four door setup. The result? An asymmetrical setup we haven't seen on any new or Hyundai used cars, a three door hatchback. The concept is that this setup gives the driver better vision without putting a support pillar right on his head while allowing rear passengers their own door to exit curb side.
Still not getting it? If not don't fret, this car is laser pointed at a younger crowd, from the swept back front end to the central rear exhaust that reminiscent of a Bugatti Veyron. The Veloster rear exhaust is the only thing that resembles a Bugatti supercar however, with a price tag low enough to put it with the best cars under 20000, and a mileage of 40 MPG highway.
But the numbers aren't the only things that carry the Veloster compared to other new cars for sale. With the moon roof option, the car becomes absolutely awash in glass, resulting in a very bright interior, while the electronics offered standard all cater to the electronic crowd. Pandora support comes standard on all models, USB and RCA jacks to connect your toys, with Hyundai's BlueLink system to connect them all; including voice support for your text. The highest package even offers paint striped rims to match your paintjob a nice touch especially when you see it in person in a local Hyundai dealer.
But as good as the price, mileage, electronics, and just car design looks, there is one short point. Velocity really isn't the name of this cars game. The economy engine just won't compare to other used cars of the past, but its still one of the best cars under $20,000 at $17,300 base and 40 mpg hwy. But if that is your only lament is the speed no fear, there's always the turbo version is expected out for 2013.
