When you think of the best MPG 4x4 what do you think of? Maybe some hybrid pickup truck or diesel hatchback, but you would be wrong. Trucks will always lag behind their smaller cousins, and nobody has seen sense enough to offer AWD diesel cars that offer 35 MPG or better as silly as that is.
Instead the company carrying the flag for AWD 30 MPG cars fall to the Subaru Impreza Wagon and sedan. To many this is not much of a surprise, after all Subaru has always been a leader in AWD new cars for sale. 4x4 is simply their bread and butter.
For others who may have seen the mileage of the 2011 Impreza at Subaru Rochester NY car dealers, this is a big surprise. In 2011 the Impreza would give you 27 MPG highway which isn't shabby for a 4wd car but hardly economy. Its city mileage was barely out of the teens at 20 MPG, hardly a chart topping fear for new cars for sale.
Now enter the 2012 Subaru Impreza Wagon. Instead of 27 MPG highway, it gets 27 MPG CITY! On the highway it goes beyond other 35 MPG cars and offers a more than respectable 36 highway mileage. Given the extra weight of the AWD system that's quite a feat.
Even better news, especially shoppers at dealerships that see snow like Subaru Rochester NY, is the news regarding the price. The 2012 Impreza remains on the LotPro new cars under 20k listing and in fact hasn't increased in price at all over the 2011 model year and remains $17,495 plus delivery fee.
Now you can get a Golf TDI and get an extra 3 MPG in the city at the cost of about $5,000 and still not get AWD. Or you can stay with new cars under 20k and get an Impreza, and enjoy the best MPG 4x4. The Impreza maybe a surprise pick to some, but we think it will be an easy pick for many.
