How the rankings were compiled
In order to objectively rank the vehicles, U.S. News surveyed the reviews from more than 100 reputable sources including newspapers, magazines and other sources. Their data experts assigned values to these opinions in regards to handling, styling and other criteria. These numbers were entered into a database along with government crash test data. Once this data was combined, a number from 1 to 10 was assigned to each car in the database and the vehicles ranked according to their score.
