Kia Motors Corporation has confirmed that the production version of the Kia Soul, available only with front-wheel drive, will be marketed globally with three engine variants. While not naming specific markets, it would appear that the European market Souls will be equipped with either a 1.6 liter gasoline engine or a 1.6 liter variable geometry turbocharged diesel engine. Both powerplants are based on engines currently available on the European-built Kia cee’d. Both engines will be available with a 5-speed manual transaxle, while the gasoline version will also be available with a 4-speed automatic gearbox.

While Europeans have a choice, that may not be the case in North America, where it appears U.S. spec versions will make do with the current 2.0 liter gas-only engine that is currently found in the Spectra. Transmission choices for this iteration will also be either a five-speed manual or 4-speed automatic.
