Lamborghini donates the proceeds of the first US bound Gallardo Spyder to charity.

Proceeds to go to Multiple Sclerosis

Here at LotPro.com, we are constantly inundated with information regarding charity events from all the auto manufacturers. And while the causes are all worthwhile, writing about all of them would nearly preclude us from writing about anything else. Still, every once in a while, something along these lines really piques our interest – such as giving away a quarter million dollar automobile.

Gallardo Spyder

So it was with more than a little interest when we read about Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. donating the proceeds from the first Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder to reach our shores to the Nancy Davis Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis.

The Foundation

Ms. Davis is the daughter of the late Marvin Davis, who was the chairman of Davis Petroleum, a philanthropist in his own right as well as the former owner of 20th Century Fox studios.

In 1992, at the age of 33, Ms. Davis was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Rather than go home, go to bed and wait for the inevitable, she decided to create the foundation that bears her name to fund research for finding a cure for the debilitating disease.

Hollywood style

Every year the foundation sponsors a ticketed fundraising event to kick off National MS Month and with Ms. Davis’ entertainment connections, the guest list looked like a who’s who of Hollywood with attendees that included such luminaries as Dustin Hoffman, Virginia Madsen, Taylor Dane and Avril Lavigne. But I digress.

And the winners are…

In any case, the Lambo was auctioned off and the high bidders turned out to be Kymberly Gold, former co-founder/co-creator of True Religion Jeans, and music producer Victor Newman, who placed the winning bid of a cool $270,000 (the music and rag trade must be good right now) for rights to the first U.S. Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder.

The one-of-a-kind Gallardo Spyder, which was hand-built specifically for the event and features all black with subtle orange accents (the charity’s color is orange) , will be delivered about a month from now. All proceeds from the sale were donated by Lamborghini to the foundation and contributed much towards the event’s $2 million bottom line.
