Subaru Great Lakes Region and the Village of Itasca attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the largest parade of Subaru cars.

Subaru

There are few automotive nameplates that have such ardent owners and followers as those of Subaru. Unlike its other Japanese brethren, Subaru has always marched to a different drummer. All-wheel drive, horizontally-opposed boxer engines and, shall we say, an independent eye towards style (the XT and SVX come immediately to mind) have been the hallmarks of Subaru.

Being something of an outsider has also led to much less ink, especially at LotPro.com. But we are about to rectify that situation.

Suby fans set sights on Itasca

On July 11, 2009, Subaru of America’s Great Lakes Region, along with the Village of Itasca, Illinois (where the Great Lakes Region headquarters are located) will be ground zero for Subaru aficionados from the Midwest and, it is hoped, the rest of the U.S. For it is here that the automaker has set out to attempt to set a Guinness World Records(TM) record for the “Largest Parade of Subaru Cars.”

The attempt will take place at 9:00 a.m. that Saturday and will begin in front of Subaru’s headquarters building at 500 Park Boulevard, which is located on the north side of the city of Itasca. To make the proceedings official, “an official Guinness World Records(TM) adjudicator (we’re assuming that’s a judge) will be on site to observe and confirm this record attempt.”

Charity donation

In addition to the obvious fun involved, Subaru will also be making a donation of $15 per participating Subaru vehicle (up to a total of $7,000) that will be shared between PAWS Chicago (a Chicago non-profit pet adoption agency) and Salute, Inc. (a Chicago non-profit organization that provides financial support for military men and women and their families).

But wait, there’s more

Not only will the Subaru parade participants be going for the record and raising funds for these two great organizations, they also:

•    Will receive a special gift bag (one per car).

•    Are invited to attend Itasca Fest following the Guinness World Records(TM) attempt.

For more information, starting June 22 through July 8, interested participants can register their Subaru in the parade by visiting www.subaru.com/parade.
