The Morgan Festival Weekend took place during the first weekend of August

Morgan

100 years of Morgan

Here at LotPro.com, we recently received information from the Morgan press office (it seems the people at Morgan take as much time getting out their press releases as they do assembling their vehicles) about the Morgan centenary celebration.

In 1909, HFS Morgan designed and built the first Morgan 3 wheeler (cyclecar). Various versions of these vehicles were produced until 1952. Morgan began producing 4 wheel models in 1936. Today, Morgans are still hand built in Malvern Link, Worcestershire with body substructures made of ash (yes, the wood) and chassis and bodies fabricated of metal (aluminum in the case of the Aero 8).

And so it was that during the weekend of the1st and 2nd of August, a gathering of Morgans took place in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England.  During the weekend, in excess of 3200 Morgan cars, from 18 different countries assembled to celebrate 100 years of the marque (in case anyone is wondering, that particular number equates to more than 5 years worth of Morgan production).

It should be pointed out that the festivities were hardly limited to the weekend and were, in fact, merely the culmination of a week’s worth of various and sundry events and activities. In true British fashion, the festivities included a “grand Gala Dinner” for 1000, an outdoor rock concert, “autotests”, entertainments and the Concours, which featured a prize for the Morgan in the best condition (considering the many zealous Morgan owners, that event had to be a difficult one to judge).

But wait, there’s more

The “Grande Finale” to the weekend featured a concert on Sunday evening with the English Symphony Orchestra in which a large crowd enjoyed “the rousing music and firework display.”

Charles Morgan said “I thought the Saturday night Gala Dinner was going to be the climax of the weekend, but the concert and fireworks on the Sunday was just amazing too”

Celebrating in style

In addition to the company sponsored celebration, Morgan has been invited to many prestigious events this year to celebrate its Centenary, including the Villa D’Este Concours on Lake Como in Italy, the Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex, England and the Pebble Beach Concours in California, where it was one of the 3 featured marques – alongside both Bugatti and Bentley.
