Since 1953 the Experimental Aircraft Association has sponsored a week-long annual celebration of aviation that, beginning in 1970, has been held in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Among its many supporters, Ford Motor Company is also its exclusive automotive partner.

This year, Ford created a one-of-a kind, special edition F-150 that joins nine special Mustangs it's offered at previous AirVenture gatherings. And like those pony cars, the specially-modified Raptor crossed the block at a charity auction that was held at the event.

The proceeds from the sale, as in previous years, will benefit the EAA Young Eagles program - which, since 1992, has provided free introductory flights to more than two million young people. Gary Ackerman of Gaudin Ford in Las Vegas, Nevada placed the winning bid of $300,000. Not by coincidence, Ackerman also serves as Honorary Commander/Ambassador for the United States Air Force's F-22 Squadron at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada.

"Few things are as streamlined, as gloriously intimidating as the shape, metallic color and sinister speed a fighter jet represents," said Ford design manager Melvin Betancourt who, along with Ford Performance, led the design and engineering of the F-22 F-150 Raptor. "The simple, extreme functionality of the cockpit alone proved inspiring, prompting the team to create matte finishes, purposeful gauges, controls for ready proximity and dramatic LED lighting for the instrument panel."

As the first "one-of-a-kind" F-150, the F-22 F-150 Raptor features a custom Sherwin-Williams exterior paint that includes F-22 Raptor jet cues. The exterior features a custom titanium grille with the front silhouette of the aircraft. Interior modifications also include jet-inspired design cues.
