Honda has released pricing information on the 2017 Civic Si sedan and coupe, which started reaching dealers on May 13th.

2017 Honda Civic Si Coupe and Sedan

2017 Honda Civic Si

Since it was unveiled, the spotlight has shown most brightly on the new-to-the-US 2017 Civic Type R, the all-new Civic Si still remains a potent contender in the compact hot hatch segment. While it can't match the Type R's output of 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, it will certainly undercut its' more powerful sibling in price.

We won't know the difference until Honda releases pricing on the Type R, but, as of May 12th, we now know pricing on the latest Civic Si – both the sedan and hatchback. But first, let's take a closer look.

Under the hood

The biggest change from 2016 lies under the hood where Honda has eighty-sixed last year's VTEC 2.4-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder in favor of a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder. Both produce an identical 205 horsepower, but the new engine offers up 192 lb-ft of torque, an improvement of 18 lb-ft. Those peak numbers also come earlier – with horsepower at 5,700 rpm, and torque at 2,100 rpm with a broader powerband. Like last year, the only transmission offered is a short-throw, six-speed manual.

The latest Si is lighter - by 96 and 113 pounds for the sedan and coupe, respectively - with an improved suspension, a more rigid body, and a two-mode (Normal and Sport) adaptive damper system. The brakes are larger (by 0.5 inches), and the 235/40 R18 tires are wider - with a summer tire option. The suspension features stiffer spring rates, more rigid stabilizer bars, and front upper control arms shared with the Type R.

Exterior and interior

Outside, the Si features a more aggressive front fascia, low-profile tires mounted on18-inch alloy wheels and, in back, a decklid wing spoiler on the sedan and a more massive raised wing spoiler on the coupe.

Interior highlights include heavily-bolstered, red-stitched, front sport sets with stitched "SI" logos. The theme is repeated on the door panels as well as the leather-wrapped steering wheel and aluminum shift knob. Both the driver's TFT screen and the audio system are illuminated in red, while aluminum pedals and carbon-look instrument panel trim complete the look.
