SEMA Show 2016

It was called the Speed Equipment Manufacturing Association. At least that's what the acronym "SEMA" stood for during its first seven years when Vic Edelbrock, Jr., Dean Moon, Ed Iskenderian and others formed an association to promote the automotive aftermarket industry. In 1980, the name was changed to the more politically correct Specialty Equipment Market Association, which also enabled the organization to keep calling itself SEMA.

Today the annual event the organization sponsors not only represents the largest automotive aftermarket show in the world, it is also undoubtedly the largest "auto show" which is not open to the public.

But despite the fact that attendees must be manufacturers, buyers, exhibitors or members of the media, the SEMA Show has become a magnet for auto manufacturers anxious to display their own OEM aftermarket parts as well as vehicles that they've modified or had modified for them.

Earlier today, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' parts division gave us a sneak peek of five Mopar-modified vehicles that are a part of the 14 vehicles FCA will have on display over the 15,345-square-foot Mopar exhibit near the center of level 1 of the South Hall at this year's show.

The press release notes that "Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram vehicles, re-imagined with Mopar production and concept parts and accessories, will share the stage with hundreds of Mopar products on display at the premier automotive specialty products trade show."

According to FCA, both Mopar production products as well as a number of Mopar concept products are used on each of the concept vehicles. They include:
