It may be the title to a very bad movie but it also refers to a number of significant introductions by Honda at 2013 Auto Shanghai

2013 Auto Shanghai

Never let it be said that Honda overlooked the Chinese market in 2013. For proof, one need look no further than the four vehicles unveiled Sunday during the Media day at 2013 Auto Shanghai.

Acura Concept SUV-X

It would appear that Honda either believes China is large enough to get its own upscale compact crossover as opposed to the current Acura RDX or, by calling it a "global concept" this could also mean the rest of us might see it as well when its refresh time.

Here’s how Honda put it:

The Acura Concept SUV-X is a global concept vehicle for a small SUV developing primarily for the Chinese market. This is the first time for Acura to introduce the world premiere of a concept model outside of North America. Emotional and sharp styling and driving performance, together with the environmental performance of a small vehicle and excellent utility of an SUV are all fused together at a high level in this vehicle. Acura is planning to begin local production and sales in China of a mass-production model based on this concept vehicle for its market in about next three years.

"Concept M" new-value MPV concept

It appears as though the Honda Concept M will be a minivan exclusive to the Chinese Market, although it may portend the next-gen Odyssey. Here is Honda’s take:

The Honda Concept M is a concept vehicle for the MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) segment developed mainly for Chinese market. Currently, commercial vehicles account for the majority of the MPV market in China. Honda will introduce a new-value vehicle to the segment that offers the attributes of a passenger car with a comfortable and spacious cabin that is also fun to drive. The Concept M was designed by the design studio at the Automobile R&D Center of Honda R&D Co., Ltd. in Japan. Honda is making progress in the development of a mass-production vehicle based on this concept model aiming for market introduction next year.

"CRIDER" (new model)

According to sources at Honda, the Crider (one would hope it sounds better in Chinese) is based on the Civic platform but is intended to give buyers a higher level of luxury, much like the Acura ILX in other markets. Here is how Honda describes it:

The Honda CRIDER is a mass-production vehicle based on the Concept C (a concept model for a middle-class sedan developed for the Chinese market), which was introduced at the Beijing Motor Show last year. Developed under a design concept based on an image of a dragon, the CRIDER features top-class vehicle size, an energetic exterior design and dynamic performance that exceeds other vehicles in its class. The CRIDER is a mid-size sedan developed for Chinese customers mainly by Honda’s Chinese associates.

The CRIDER is scheduled to go on sale from Guangqi Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. in June of this year.

"JADE" (new model)

Although initially available only in China, it appears as though Honda plans on making this smaller MPV available in other markets sometime in the near future. Here is the official info from Honda:

The Honda JADE is a mass-production vehicle based on the Concept S (a global concept model for a new-value passenger mover developed primarily for the Chinese market to go on sale first in China), which was also introduced at the Beijing Motor Show last year. Featuring an innovative design developed based on an image of jade stone with a beautiful exterior look and noble sense of quality within, the JADE will satisfy diverse customer needs from everyday use to holiday driving. The JADE was designed to match the tastes of Chinese customers born in 1980s who are energetic and known for pursuing their dreams.

The JADE is scheduled to go on sale from Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. in September of this year.
