Chevrolet announced today that the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro is now in dealer showrooms. Five trim levels, two engines, lots of attitude

Built on GM’s new global rear-wheel-drive platform, the latest Chevrolet Camaro harkens back to the first-generation model, produced from 1967 to 1969. the newest version features a 112.3 inch wheelbase, an overall length of 190.4 inches with width and height measurements of 75.5 and 52.4 inches, respectively. Five trim levels will be offered: The base LS (starting at $22,995) offers a 3.6 liter, 304 horsepower SIDI (spark ignition direct injection) V-6 engine with 18” steel wheels, a full compliment of airbags, cruise and tilt/telescope, keyless entry, stability control, 6-speed manual or automatic transmission, ABS, AM/FM/CD/MP3 with auxiliary input, cloth interior and one year of basic OnStar.

Camaro LT with RS option

The 1LT (starting at $24,630) adds 18” alloy wheels, fog lamps, a six-way power drivers seat, plus the ability to add the RS package and the wireless technology package.

The 2LT (starting at $27,330) adds leather front seats, heated power mirrors, 19” alloy wheels, leather-wrapped steering wheel (with audio controls) and shift knob, 4-pack console gauge package, Boston Acoustics sound system, USB port and remote start.

2010 Camaro SS

The 1SS (starting at $30,995) offers a 6.2 liter, 400 horsepower V-8 engine (426 hp with the manual transmission) with Brembo 4-piston 4-wheel ABS brakes, SS-specific front and rear fascia treatments with a rear spoiler and special instrumentation, 20” alloy wheels shod with Pirelli P-Zero tires, cloth power seats with SS lettering as well as a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The 2SS (starting at $34,180) adds heated power mirrors, the four-pack console gauge package, leather front seats, as well as the aforementioned Boston Acoustics sound system, USB port and remote start. Finally, the RS package (priced at $1,450 LT or $1,200 SS) includes HID headlamps with integrated “halo rings”, a rear spoiler (on the LT), specific “darkened” taillamps and 20” wheels with a Midnight Silver finish and is available on the 2LT, 1SS and 2SS models.

One thing Chevrolet people are quick to point out is that whether the Camaro is equipped with 18, 19 or 20 inch wheels, the relationship of the top of the tire and the bottom of the fender is consistent with all models, so even if you pick a version with 18” wheels, there will not be a large “gap” between the tire and wheel well.

Despite the state of the current economy, General Motors paraded into the press preview with six new models it plans to introduce in the next two years.
