Ford Taurus Safety Reviews - 2003

NHTSA CRASH TEST RESULTS
Frontal crash ratings Driver: * * * * * Passenger: * * * * *
Side crash ratings Driver: * * * Rear Passenger: * * *
Results based on a 35 MPH frontal crash and 38.5 MPH side crash. Results are reported in a range of one to five stars, with five stars indicating the best crash protection for vehicles within the same weight class. This test used driver and passenger belts and airbags.
NHTSA ROLLOVER RESISTANCE RATING * * * *
The Rollover Resistance Rating is an estimate of your risk of rolling over if you have a single vehicle crash. It does not predict the likelihood of that crash. The Rollover Resistance Rating essentially measures vehicle characteristics of center of gravity and track width to determine how "top-heavy" a vehicle is. The more "top-heavy" the vehicle, the more likely it is to roll over. The lowest rated vehicles (1-star) are at least four times more likely to roll over than the highest rated vehicles (5-stars).

Ford Taurus Recalls Issued - 2003

NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID 04V106
Number Of Units Affected 938,789
Summary Certain passenger vehicles are being recalled to correct a problem with a malfunctioning stop lamp switch and/or associated wiring. This malfunctioning could render the stop lamps inoperable or cause them to stay on all the time. This could cause confusion to a following driver, which could lead to a crash. In addition, if the switch and/or associated wiring fail in the open position, the brake lights will not actuate and the driver will not be able to shift the vehicle out of "Park." If they fail in the closed position, the brake lights will remain on, which will not allow the speed control to be activated. This could also cause the battery to discharge.
Remedy Dealers will remove the stop lamp switch and associated wiring assembly and install a newly designed stop lamp switch and wire assembly. The manufacturer has reported that owner notification began on April 5, 2004. Owners may contact Ford at 1-800-392-3673.
Dates of Manufacture May 1999 - March 2003
