Results are reported in a range of one to five stars, with five stars indicating the best crash protection for vehicles within the same weight class. This test used driver and passenger belts and airbags. NHTSA ROLLOVER RESISTANCE RATING: The Rollover Resistance Rating is an estimate of your risk of rolling over if you have a single vehicle crash. It does not predict the likelihood of that crash. The Rollover Resistance Rating utilizes a "fishhook" maneuver which is a series of abrupt turns at varying speeds to see how "top-heavy" a vehicle is. The more "top-heavy" the vehicle, the more likely it is to roll over. The lowest rated vehicles (1-star) are at least four times more likely to roll over than the highest rated vehicles (5-stars). |
2004 Mercury Sable Review
"Mercury's midsize sedans and wagons receive minor appearance changes for 2004. Sable's sedan gets a new rear fascia and taillights, and both body styles have a new grille and front fascia. GS and LS Premium models are offered. GS versions have a standard front bench seat for 6-passenger capacity. Front bucket seats are standard on the LS Premium and optional on GS. Both use a 3.0-liter V6 engine. The GS has 155 hp, the LS Premium 201. A 4-speed automatic is the sole transmission. Antilock brakes are a no-charge option for all Sables; wagons include rear disc brakes instead of drums. An available Secure Group bundles traction control with front side airbags. Power-adjustable foot pedals are standard on LS Premium, unavailable on GS. Sable shares its design with the Ford Taurus, and its performance and accommodations mirror those of like-equipped Taurus models. "
