The Rollover Resistance Rating utilizes a "fishhook" maneuver which is a series of abrupt turns at varying speeds to see how "top-heavy" a vehicle is. The more "top-heavy" the vehicle, the more likely it is to roll over. The lowest rated vehicles (1-star) are at least four times more likely to roll over than the highest rated vehicles (5-stars).

2005 GMC Canyon Review

"Little-changed for 2005, GMC's compact pickups share powertrains and a basic design with Chevrolet Colorados, but differ in trim and features. Canyon offers regular-cab, extended-cab, and Crew Cab models with SL or uplevel SLE trim and 4-cyl or optional 5-cyl engines. Both engines team with manual or automatic transmission and either rear-wheel drive or 4WD that has low-range gearing but must be disengaged on dry pavement. Regular cabs seat up to three. Extendeds come with dual rear-hinged back doors and seats for five. The 4-dr crew cabs seat up to six and have a 5-ft-long cargo box vs. a 6-ft bed. All models include ABS and offer optional curtain side airbags for head protection in all seating rows. Traction control is available on 2WDs and now includes limited-slip differential. All Canyons use 15-inch alloy wheels. The base suspension is designated Z85. A high-riding Z71 off-road setup is available linewide, but Canyon does not offer Colorado's ZQ8 sport-suspension option. A sunroof is newly available for 2005, as is leather upholstery and a stereo with CD/MP3 player. Satellite radio and OnStar assistance are also available. Canyon's performance and accommodations mirror those of similarly equipped Colorados."

Summary	CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS MAY EXPERIENCE THE PERMANENT LOSS OF BRAKE LAMP FUNCTION OR BRAKE LAMPS THAT ARE ILLUMINATED AT ALL TIMES. THE CENTER HIGH-MOUNTED STOP LAMP (CHMSL) IS AFFECTED IN BOTH INSTANCES. ALSO, IF EQUIPPED, THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL BECOME INOPERATIVE. ANY TRAILER BRAKE LAMPS WHICH ARE CONNECTED TO THE VEHICLE'S BRAKE LAMP WIRING WILL MIMIC THE VEHICLE'S BRAKE LAMPS WHEN EITHER CONDITION OCCURS.
Consequence	A FOLLOWING DRIVER MAY NOT KNOW WHEN THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN APPLIED, AND A REAR-END CRASH COULD OCCUR WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.

NHTSA CRASH TEST RESULTS	Frontal crash ratings: Driver: Passenger: Side crash ratings: Driver: Rear Passenger: No Seat Results based on a 35 MPH frontal crash and 38.5 MPH side crash. Results are reported in a range of one to five stars, with five stars indicating the best crash protection for vehicles within the same weight class. This test used driver and passenger belts and airbags. NHTSA ROLLOVER RESISTANCE RATING: The Rollover Resistance Rating is an estimate of your risk of rolling over if you have a single vehicle crash. It does not predict the likelihood of that crash. The Rollover Resistance Rating utilizes a "fishhook" maneuver which is a series of abrupt turns at varying speeds to see how "top-heavy" a vehicle is. The more "top-heavy" the vehicle, the more likely it is to roll over. The lowest rated vehicles (1-star) are at least four times more likely to roll over than the highest rated vehicles (5-stars).
