The 2008 Saab 9-5 Sedan is a 4-door, 5-passenger luxury sports sedan that comes in one trim only - the 2.3T. The 2008 Saab 9-5 Sedan has a customary 2.3-liter, I4, 260-hp turbo engine and a 5-speed automatic transmission. However, a 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is optional. The Saab 9-5 Sedan comes with a 60,000mi/48 month basic warranty.

| Summary | General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2011 Saab 9-3 vehicles manufactured May 31, 2002, to February 15, 2011, 2006-2009 Saab 9-5 vehicles manufactured June 7, 2005, to May 28, 2009, and 2008-2009 Saturn Astra vehicles manufactured April 11, 2007, to July 24, 2008. Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture. |
| Consequence | In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death. |
| Remedy | GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's frontal air bag inflator on Saab 9-3 and 9-5 vehicles and will replace the driver's frontal airbag module on Saturn Astra vehicles, free of charge. Remedy parts are currently unavailable. Owners were notified of the recall on March 23, 2016. Owners will receive a second notice when remedy parts become available. Frontal crash ratings: Driver: Passenger: Side crash ratings: Driver: Rear Passenger: Results based on a 35 MPH frontal crash and 38.5 MPH side crash. Results are reported in a range of one to five stars, with five stars indicating the best crash protection for vehicles within the same weight class. This test used driver and passenger belts and airbags. NHTSA ROLLOVER RESISTANCE RATING: The Rollover Resistance Rating is an estimate of your risk of rolling over if you have a single vehicle crash. It does not predict the likelihood of that crash. The Rollover Resistance Rating utilizes a "fishhook" maneuver which is a series of abrupt turns at varying speeds to see how "top-heavy" a vehicle is. The more "top-heavy" the vehicle, the more likely it is to roll over. The lowest rated vehicles (1-star) are at least four times more likely to roll over than the highest rated vehicles (5-stars). |
