The 2009 Ford Fusion I4 S Sedan has a routine 2.3 liter, I4, 160hp engine and a 5-speed manual transmission, however, a 5-speed automatic transmission is optional. The Fusion V6 SEL AWD has a 3.0 liter, V6, 221hp engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2009 Ford Fusion averages 18mpg city and 26mpg highway. | Summary | Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2007-2011 Ranger, 2006-2012 Fusion, Lincoln Zephyr, Lincoln MKZ, 2006-2011 Mercury Milan, 2007-2010 Ford Edge, and Lincoln MKX vehicles. The driver's side air bag inflator may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling. |
| Consequence | An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death. |
| Remedy | Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver-side airbag inflator or module with an alternate one, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin April 1, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 21S12. |

Frontal crash ratings: Driver: Passenger: Side crash ratings: Driver: Rear Passenger: Results based on a 35 MPH frontal crash and 38.5 MPH side crash. Results are reported in a range of one to five stars, with five stars indicating the best crash protection for vehicles within the same weight class. This test used driver and passenger belts and airbags. NHTSA ROLLOVER RESISTANCE RATING: The Rollover Resistance Rating is an estimate of your risk of rolling over if you have a single vehicle crash. It does not predict the likelihood of that crash. The Rollover Resistance Rating utilizes a "fishhook" maneuver which is a series of abrupt turns at varying speeds to see how "top-heavy" a vehicle is. The more "top-heavy" the vehicle, the more likely it is to roll over. The lowest rated vehicles (1-star) are at least four times more likely to roll over than the highest rated vehicles (5-stars). |
