Already local dealerships are starting to see 2013 models trickle in, which means its time to start talking which 2013 sedans are worth taking putting on your radar and learning who the new kids are.
Not even into the final quarter of 2012 yet, it already feels a little weird breaking down which 40 MPG cars 2013 has to offer, but with fuel cost always a top of mind concern for cash strapped families it seems an excellent place to start. To keep the list affordable, only new cars under 25000 get to make the cut which basically throws all the hybrids off the list. And no, the Prius c isn't a sedan it's a hatchback.

While we still don't have a full list of all the vehicles for 2013 yet, let alone mileage so this is still very much a work in progress. Still its clear that 40 is the new 30 (MPG that is) and that many automakers are keen to get over that hill as soon as possible, with automakers such as Chevy even offering special eco packages to push the mileage needle.
Getting More Mileage Out of Gasoline
The sudden push in the fuel economy arms race has certainly expanded competition and shrunk the gap between 2013 hybrids, diesel, and gasoline based engine options. Dodge, which didn't offer a car with more then 32 MPG highway last year now rolls out the new Dart this year with 39 highway.
Nissan really did a number as well on the new Altima, going from 23/32 last year to 27 city/38 highway as well. And with all these new cars under 25000 dollars jumping up, you have to wonder about the trade offs of more expensive and range limited electrics offer as well. If you're worried about not being green enough, or just need to save more money, consider one of the above models the next time your out looking at new cars.
