The Top SUVs Under 20000 Part 1

There is always a ton of interest in the best cars under 20000, but small cars are not for everyone no matter how attractive the price is. For some people the need goes beyond a simple commuter vehicle. The want new cars for sale that can carry groceries for the whole family, take all the kids to school, possibly even push their way through some snow or mud. For those people, their needs tailor closer to an SUV than the best car available.

But what sort of cheap new SUVs are available to people today and how expensive are they? Car search engines such as LotPro.com have over one hundred separate SUV listings running the whole gauntlet of cost, options, and automakers. To help trim this list down to something helpful to our readers, we will only be looking for any SUV under 20000. That still gives us a total of eight vehicles to examine over the next two days.

We'll start with the most expensive of these new cars for sale and work our way down to the rest of the SUVs under 20000.

Car Model Dealer Price Range MPG Incentives
Suzuki Grand Vitara $19,499 - $25,249 19 City / 26 Hwy Incentives Available
Jeep Compass $19,295 - $26,045 23 City / 28 Hwy Incentives Available
Hyundai Tucson $19,045 - $26,395 23 City / 31 Hwy Incentives Available
Dodge Journey $18,995 - $31,795 19 City / 26 Hwy Incentives Available

The Suzuki Grand Vitara makes the cut as the last of our eight reviewed vehicles, though it would be much higher on our list if we would take the $1,750 in possible Suzuki rebates this October. The Jeep Compass makes the jump to our cheap new SUVs list under $20,000 by losing the 4x4 option which cost an extra $1,600. And while not trail rated at this price range the Compass is still a very solid sport utility that now looks quite sharp sporting a very Jeep Grand Cherokee looking front end. It also gets a very car like mpg and up to $1,500 off in rebates.

Meanwhile the Hyundai Tucson, while lacking any rebates still has 1.9% financing option, excellent mpg, and is arguably one of the nicest SUVs on our list. Meanwhile the Dodge Journey is our newest entry to the list. A significant base model price drop of over $2000 has added it to car search engines list of cars under 20000. It offers the choice of a modest $500 rebate or 0% Dodge financing. Want the rest? Check back tomorrow when we review the four most affordable SUVs.
