Attention used Toyota Camry owners, the Germans are coming the Germans are coming! Will the new redesigned 2012 Volkswagen Passat be enough to woe you to the East-side European importer? Or will the new Camry be enough to keep you a west-side import owner? An automobile turf war renews.
The new 2012 Volkswagen Passat is designed to be more comparable in size to the older used Toyota Camry, and at time of this writing is set to be priced similar to boot. But Toyota won't take this lying down either. Look for the new 2012 Camry to put up even more of a fight.
But the Passat isn't the only weapon VW plans to roll out this fall. In fact if you watched the Super bowl at all, you probably caught one of the better pieces of million dollar advertising in the black beetle commercial. A spot for the new Beetle set to be re-released this fall.
Compact, swift, and just fun to watch, the spot really nailed what 'Das Auto' really is. Looking to gain a wider world wide footprint, VW is hoping the new 2012 Beetle will be more than just one of Opera's "Favorite Things". Will this sloped back black bug capture people's hearts again? Volkswagen hopes so, though it will still be a while before you see them rolling into Volkswagen Tulsa OK show rooms.
Personally though, watching that lil bug scoot around reminded me more of the VW GTI Golf then the Beetle. Maybe it was the old VW Bug's flower vase, but it never said "GO! GO!" to me the way the compact GTI did. It's usually fun to compare new cars side by side, but to me my Beetle friends always added a new flower arrangement. My GTI Golf buddies were digging through automobile search engines and slapping on new body kits.
Still, until maybe the new Beetle will live up to the re-branding. But for that, it will have to pass the eye test. You can play with the compare new cars side by side feature all day, but it really doesn't do the cars justice until you walk into that Volkswagen dealership in Tulsa, OK and see for yourself.
Ok so maybe all of you aren't near Tulsa, but that's what the VW dealership locator is for right? Sadly finding your local Volkswagen dealership won't help you find more Volkswagen incentives and rebates. VW just doesn't offer them like you see with the Big Three and even now some of the Japanese imports. Which is too bad, a little bit more money to grease the hill and cars like the VW GTI golf would fly off the shelf.
Still, despite the lack of Volkswagen incentives and rebates, there's always enough VW cult following for our automobile search engines and VW dealership locator to just get hammered come this fall. After all, if VW showed us anything with the Black Beetle and kid Darth Vader commercials, it's that Das Auto knows how we think. Beware, the Germans are coming.
