Honda's luxury division has announced pricing on the refreshed 2016 RDX compact crossover

Acura's smallest crossover began as a bit of an experiment as it was the first (and so far only) Honda model powered by a turbocharged engine. Although that particular RDX managed to gain a following of enthusiast drivers who enjoyed the way it performed, it never sold in the numbers Acura was hoping for.

In 2012, Acura responded by ditching the turbo in the second-generation model, replacing it with a 3.5-liter SOHC all-aluminum V6 generating 273 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 251 lb.-ft. of torque at 5,000 rpm. The move proved to be a wise one, as the RDX set an all-time sales record in 2014. Not one to rest on its laurels, however, Honda has engineered a mid-cycle refresh for the 2016 model, introduced earlier this year at the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, which is slated to reach dealers this week.

For 2016, that V6 now produces six more horses and one additional pound-foot of torque, as well as a broader torque curve, although it's still mated to a six-speed automatic. That tranny, by the way features relatively short gearing in the first five gears, while a taller sixth gear allows for lower-rev highway cruising. As it's based on the CR-V, all-wheel-drive versions get the same AWD with Intelligent Control as Honda's best-in-class seller.

In addition to those minor tweaks, the face lifted 2016 RDX also sports the brand's signature Jewel Eye LED projector headlamps as well as LED taillights.

Inside, there's new high-contrast silver and black trim, while heated front seats as well as second-row air-conditioning vents are now standard. There's also a new range-topping Advance Package that features rain-sensing wipers, front fog lights, remote engine start, front and rear parking sensors, ventilated front seats and an auto-dimming driver's side mirror. The package also features the brand's AcuraWatch safety and driver-assist technologies (consisting of Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation Braking System and Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist and Lane Departure Warning and an Expanded View driver's side mirror), available on all trim levels for the first time.

Changes have also been made to the RDX's body structure that will further improve its frontal collision performance.
