All new subcompact CX-3 crossover utility vehicle is introduced ahead of the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show
2016 Mazda CX-3
Media days surrounding the 2014 LA Auto Show start later today, but that didn't stop Mazda from getting a jump on the competition last night by unveiling the all-new 2016 CX-3 compact crossover in front of a packed media audience.

The new cute ute is based on the same architecture that underpins the next-gen Mazda2, which was introduced this past July in Japan.
Kevin Rice, Director of Design, Mazda Motors Europe described the exterior of the CX-3 as having a "sense of athletic grace and elegance." With a long hood and "cab rearward" design, he noted that the design features "front and rear fender tension with a 'twist' transition" point along the sides.

Inside, Mazda based the cockpit design on the Heads-up Cockpit concept which "aims to help drivers process large amounts of information while maintaining the correct driving position and concentrating on driving safely."
The center of the upper dash features a seven-inch Active Driving Display, while Mazda's commander control is located on the center console between the driver and front passenger seats.
The new CX-3 also comes with Mazda Connect, the in-car infotainment system that provides Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free phone operation, reception of short text messages, and internet radio including Aha.
2016 CX-3 powertrains
While it will be offered in a number of world markets with the option of a SKYACTIV-D 1.5-liter clean diesel, the only engine offered to customers in North America will be a SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter gasoline engine with output details and specifications to be revealed at a later date, closer to launch.
That engine will be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission (no manual will be offered) and deliver power either to the front wheels or to all four wheels through a new-generation AWD system that features an active torque control coupling first used on the Mazda CX-5.

Width: 69.5 inches
Height: 61.0 inches (when equipped with the shark fin antenna and unladen)
Wheelbase: 101.2 inches
Front overhang: 35.8 inches (measured from center of wheel)
Rear overhang: 31.3 inches
Availability
Sales of the 2016 CX-3 will begin in its home market of Japan in the spring of 2015 and in the U.S. during the summer (with pricing announced closer to its availability).
