Along with a minimal bump in prices, the big news is Subaru is dropping the hybrid model from the lineup of its best-selling compact crossover.

2017 Subaru Crosstrek

2017 Subaru Crosstrek

For Japanese manufacturer Subaru, this past January marked the sixth consecutive year of month over month sales records while September represented the 58th consecutive month of month-over-month growth. In fact, the brand this year is up 4.2 percent year to date over last year.

Crosstrek sales, in particular, are up by 3.1 percent year-to-date. Last year saw a minor refresh that included a new front fascia, headlights and grille, as well as interior LED illumination. As a result, this year most of the trim levels are untouched.

We say "most" because 2017 marks the introduction of an uplevel Premium Special Edition.

Available in either Pure Red or Crystal Black Silica exterior colors with black badging, the SE will come standard with 5-spoke dark gray 17-inch alloy wheels. Although the interior is trimmed in gloss black with black cloth seating surfaces, the seats will feature the current de rigueur red stitching. Red stitching also adorns the leather-wrapped steering wheel, shifter and door trim with the claret color also illuminating the foot wells.

Speaking of foot wells, there you'll find aluminum pedal covers as well as a driver footrest. Additional standard equipment includes keyless entry with push-button start, blind spot detection and rear cross traffic alert as well as SiriusXM satellite radio (a subscription is required).

2016 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid

Crosstrek Hybrid axed

Although Subaru doesn't break out the sales figures for individual models, it appears that, gasoline prices being what they are, the hybrid model wasn't having much of an impact on Subi's bottom line. We say this because, according to Subaru, the model is being dropped from the lineup in 2017.
