    The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor

The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor has been a long time coming after it was first announced close to two years ago now at the 2015 North American International Auto Show. And some major changes are in store for the 2017 model.

The F-150-based 2017 Raptor will have the same aluminum alloy body as introduced on the 2015 model year F-150s. It has dropped 500 pounds and the Special Vehicle Team (SVT) prefix. It will also boast the strongest frame in the F-150 lineup, the widest base in the F-150 lineup for improved off-road stability, new FOX Racing Shox, and 17-inch BF Goodrich KO2 tires.

While both have the same 5.5-foot bed, the SuperCab has a 133-inch wheelbase, while the four-door SuperCrew boasts a 145-inch base. The SuperCrew is the first Raptor to have four full-size, front-hinged doors.

The engine is also a Raptor-exclusive in the F-150 lineup. While the previous Raptor was equipped with the 6.2-liter V8, this version features an all-new 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 paired to a new 10-speed automatic. Although there has been no official word on power and torque numbers yet, Ford execs have promised that this version will out-do the V8's 411 horsepower and 434 lb.-ft. of torque.

The powertrain also features a true dual exhaust, a new 4WD, torque-on-demand transfer case, and the all-new Terrain Management System. The driver can choose from six available modes to optimize driving dynamics for various terrain, including snow, mud, sand and more.
