Subaru of America has released pricing information for the mildly refreshed 2017 version of its affordable hatchback.

2017 Subaru Forester

Subaru Forester

The current generation Forester was all-new for the 2014 model year and, since its introduction, Subaru has found little need to make any drastic changes for its back-to-the-basics model. Be that as it may, we are the last ones to argue with success.

Consider this: in 2015 Subaru recorded its seventh consecutive all-time best sales year. This past April, the manufacturer, with its U.S. headquarters at a zero-landfill office in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, recorded its 53rd consecutive month of year-over-year growth with Forester sales up 3.7 percent compared to April of 2015.

Boo-Rah!

No major changes are in store for the 2017 model, but this year the Forester is getting a few standard exterior and optional technology tweaks to keep the streak going.

2017 Subaru Forester updates

For 2017, Forester models receive a number of exterior updates including a new front bumper cover and hexagonal grille. The redesigned headlights now incorporate Subaru’s signature C-shaped motif with a black inner bezel. Meanwhile, the rear combination lights also feature a prominent C shape with LED lighting.

Inside, all 2017 Forester models now come with an updated steering wheel design that incorporates audio, Bluetooth and cruise control switches.

Additional enhancements for 2017 include a quicker steering ratio, added soundproofing, thicker door glass and redesigned door seals to help reduce wind noise. Subaru also added additional underfloor insulation and acoustic windshield glass.

Two new aluminum alloy wheel designs have also been added, with new standard 17-in wheels on 2.5i Premium and Limited models, while the new 18-inchers are now standard on the 2.0XT.

Like last year, the 2017 Forester 2.5i is available in standard, Premium, Limited and Touring trims and is powered by a 170-hp 2.5-liter 4-cylinder Boxer engine. A 6-speed manual is standard for the 2.5i and 2.5i Premium, while a CVT is available as an option on both trim levels.

2017 Foresters also received an update to Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. The revised system now includes Lane Keep Assist. As with all previous Foresters, 2017 models come standard with Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.
