2017 Acura TLX

Based on the same platform that underpins the current Honda Accord, the Acura TLX first went on sale in the fall of 2014 as a 2015 model. As expected, no major changes are in store for the 2017 model year, although the exterior colors San Marino Red, Lunar Silver Metallic and Modern Steel Metallic have been added and an ebony black interior is now available with the San Marino Red and Fathom Blue Pearl exterior colors.

2016 Acura TLX 2.4L engine

Under the hood, TLX buyers get a choice of two gasoline engines. The smaller of the two is a 2.4-liter, direct injection, 206-horsepower i-VTEC inline-4 mated to a rather unique 8-speed dual clutch transmission that also features a torque converter and Acura's Precision All-Wheel Steer (P-AWS) system.

2016 Acura TLX 3.5L SH-AWD engine

The larger of the two engines is a 3.5-liter, 290-horsepower i-VTEC V6 paired with a conventional 9-speed torque converter automatic transmission. It incorporates Variable Cylinder Management (VCM), with the ability to deactivate three of the engine's six cylinders, for improved fuel efficiency. This engine is available with two different drivetrains. The first is Precision All-Wheel Steer, while the second features the brand's next-generation Super Handling-All wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system. The TLX SH-AWD also incorporates an idle-stop capability for improved fuel efficiency.

Not that it matters much to luxury sedan buyers, but the 2.4-liter TLX has an EPA estimated fuel-economy rating of 24/35/28 mpg city/hwy/combined, while TLX models equipped with the 3.5-liter V6 with P-AWS have an EPA estimated fuel-economy rating of 21/34/25 mpg and SH-AWD models have an EPA estimated fuel-economy rating of 21/31/25 (city/highway/combined for all models).
