In conjunction with Andretti Autosport, Volkswagen will field two turbocharged Beetles in this year's Global Rallycross racing series (events in which entrants compete against each other - as well as against the clock - in a series of elimination heats. The closed courses are usually a mixture of dirt, tarmac and a 70-foot jump). Not only that, but the entries will be driven by a pair of well-known, successful drivers. The Rockstar Energy Drink Beetle will be driven by none other than Tanner Foust, GRC circuit champion in 2011 and 2012, while ex-Formula 1 and NASCAR driver Scott Speed (who won the first GRC race he entered in Brazil last year) will pilot the 7UP entry.

Earlier today at a press conference in Le Mans, Ford announced that beginning in 2016 it will run the full 2016 schedules of the FIA World Endurance Championship and TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, an agenda that includes the famous 24-hour endurance race held in June of every year in the Pays de la Loire region of France.

Earlier today, Chevrolet and 16-time NHRA champion John Force introduced a new Funny Car body - the first based on the sixth-generation Camaro SS

For this year's race, Chevrolet will produce special 50th Anniversary Edition Camaros on 2LT and 2SS coupe and convertible models. All will feature Nightfall Gray Metallic exteriors with a 50th Anniversary stripe package and badges (convertibles get a black top).

Earlier this week, Lexus unveiled the brand's latest contender in the Japan-based Super GT grand touring car racing series, where it will compete against the likes of the Nissan GT-R and Honda NSX. The LC 500 will replace its current entry, which is based on the RC-F (although the RC-F will continue to be campaigned here in the U.S.).

On Monday of this week, Volkswagen of America announced that a specially tuned Beetle had achieved exactly 205.122 mph over a flying mile at the legendary Bonneville Salt Flats in Wendover, Utah during the annual Utah Salt Flats Racing Association's (USFRA) World of Speed event.
