2017 is still three and a half weeks away but here we are passing along the pricing of Chevrolet's first 2018 model.

Earlier today, Chevy issued a press release that announced the MSRP of the base L model Equinox along with preliminary specifications for the entire lineup.

We already know that the 2017 version doesn't share a single body panel with the outgoing model. We now have a better idea of when the latest Equinox will reach dealers showrooms as well as what we can expect in the way of equipment and specifications for the new model.

2018 Chevrolet Equinox changes

While its styling is all-new and the new Equinox is about 400 pounds lighter than the outgoing model, the biggest news is what buyers will find under the hood.

At its launch, which will take place in the spring of 2017, only the standard engine will be available. It's a 1.5-liter turbocharged, direct injection gasoline inline-4 that will produce an estimated 170 horsepower and 188 lb.-ft. of torque. It will be mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. GM estimates highway fuel economy for this engine at 31 mpg.

Sometime during the second quarter of 2017, two additional engines will become available.

Finally, the third engine offered will be a 1.6-liter, direct injection, inline-4 turbo-diesel. This engine will generate an estimated 136 horsepower and 236 lb.-ft. of torque. The transmission for this engine will be a 6-speed automatic and GM estimates a highway fuel economy figure of 40 mpg.
