Ford GT Buyers get Amazing Order Kit

Buyers lucky enough to be chosen to order a 450K-plus Ford GT will receive a stunning order kit to help them with exterior color and wheel combinations as well as interior trim choices.

There's nothing normal about the new Ford GT. For starters, the mid-engine two-seat sports car has an entry-level price of $450,000. As if that wasn't enough, buyers of the supercar have to first be approved by Ford and, once they clear that hurdle, are required to pony up a fifty percent down payment when the order is finalized.

You would expect, then, that those with the luck and the wherewithal that find themselves on the short list of buyers would be treated to an ordering experience a bit above the norm.

And you'd be correct.

Earlier today, Ford unveiled an "order kit" for approved GT applicants. It's something special. Ford describes the process of assembling it as "developing miniaturized, abstract pieces for each kit employing the same advanced materials used throughout the car’s interior."

The box containing the parts that make up the kit is constructed of carbon fiber identical to that found on the GT. The contents are accessed via a latch that is also matches those specified for the supercar.

When the top is unlatched, it reveals the lower portion of the box that contains seven separate compartments. Two of those compartments contain four authentic color samples each (Frozen White, Shadow Black, Ingot Silver, Liquid Grey, Liquid Blue, Liquid Red, Triple Yellow, Matte Black), for a total of eight, that represent the exterior color choices for the GT. The samples appear to be constructed of injection molded plastic and are shaped to resemble the GT's upper body. Eight stripes (Frozen White, Shadow Black, Ingot Silver, Alloy, Lightning Blue, Race Red, and Competition Orange) are also included, allowing buyers to mix and match them with the exterior color molds.

The three round, middle storage spaces each house two miniature examples of the standard one-piece forged-aluminum wheels along with their corresponding brake caliper options available. The two storage spaces on the right contain real leather and Alcantara swatches of five different interior trim combinations (Dark Energy, Launch Control, Light Speed, Re-Entry and Heritage).

The case, itself, features a concave space where owners can, once an order has been processed and the vehicle is serialized, place a replica VIN (vehicle identification number) plate that matches that of their Ford GT.
