Korean manufacturer Hyundai first appeared on the radar here in the U.S. by giving car buyers a lot of bang for the buck. And while most of its models are no longer the bargain-basement buys they once were, there's a new bundled package that adds to the 2017 base model Elantra and carries on that tradition.

Much like the 2016 Elantra Value Edition and the 2017 Accent Value Edition, the latest Elantra Value Edition trim, according to Hyundai, "lands at a real sweet spot on the spectrum of amenities and price tag."

Right out of the box, the latest Elantra SE comes with such standard niceties as air conditioning, power windows, locks and mirrors, one touch flash-to-pass turn signals, a remote keyless entry, AM/FM/SiriusXM/CD/MP3 audio system with 6 speakers and Smartphone/USB and auxiliary input jacks.

For 2017, the SE trim comes with additional equipment that includes cruise control and Bluetooth phone and audio capability. Steering-wheel phone and audio controls have also been added.

Like the Accent Value Edition, the newest Elantra starts with the base SE trim with an automatic transmission (no manual is available). Under the hood, like all 2017 Elantras regardless of the trim level, is Hyundai's 2.0-liter Theta inline-4 generating 147 horsepower and 132 lb.-ft. of torque.
