It seems that General Motors isn't the only manufacturer with its own lineup of car-based robots

Deltatron the Tobot

If the name "Tobot" is not as familiar as the moniker "Transformers" is to American fans of science fiction, it turns out that it certainly is to youngsters in Korea - even though both Tobots and Transformers can change from vehicles into robots in a matter of seconds.

Based on General Motors' collaboration with the highly-successful Transformers movies, most of the vehicles in that series are from GM's stable, including the most famous one, Bumblebee – a robot whose alter ego is based on the fifth- generation Chevrolet Camaro Concept.

But unlike the Transformers, each Tobot, rather than mutating from a single vehicle, is based on several different cars. In addition, because of the design collaboration with Kia Motors, each of those vehicles is a Kia.

Deltatron statue in Seoul

In the case of the Tobot named Deltatron, his various limbs are constructed from the Kia Sorento-R (Sorento), the Kia Morning (Picanto), and the Kia Soul. We only mention Deltatron because, as this is written, in Seoul at the Gimpo Airport's Lotte Mall Sky Park shopping complex, visitors will now be able to view a giant 8-meter (26 ft.), 3-ton (6,000 lb) statue of Deltatron that was erected to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Tobot franchise.

If you're planning on paying Deltatron a visit you needn't feel rushed, as the statue will be on display for the next five years.
