Nissan Introduces 2017 Rogue and 2017 Rogue Hybrid

It's been three years since Nissan completely redesigned their compact crossover SUV. And now that the Japanese automaker has seen the Rogue's sales grow for three straight years, we are seeing a fairly extensive mid-cycle refresh for the 2017 model year.

It's no surprise to see the 2017 Nissan Rogue and Rogue Hybrid debut at the Miami International Auto Show, which is running from September 10-18th. Nissan has 58 dealers in the Sunshine State, Florida ranks third in total Nissan sales behind California and Texas, and the Rogue is Nissan's top-selling model there.

The revision of Nissan's smallest SUV is the automaker's latest celebration of their "Year of the Truck." The changes on the Rogue are highlighted by updated styling, new convenience features, and more technology and safety offerings.

The extensive list of enhancements for the 2017 model starts with new front and rear fascias. The design is complete with Nissan's signature V-motion grille, and also includes new chrome side moldings and three new color choices. The 2017 Nissan Rogue has an available Motion-Activated Liftgate, which is standard on the SL grade.

Inside, the 2017 Rogue was given new materials and finishers for a more premium and upscale look and feel. Optional three-row, seven-passenger seating with Nissan's Divide-N-Hide Cargo system returns, and the "D-shaped" steering wheel and center console are both new.

Nissan has also increased it's Safety Shield technology offerings. Available for the first time on the 2017 model include Intelligent Cruise Control, Forward Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning, and Lane Departure Prevention.

The 2017 Nissan Rogue is powered by a carryover 170-horsepower, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with Xtronic transmission. All three trim levels are available in either front-wheel or all-wheel drive.

The 2017 Nissan Rogue Hybrid

The bigger news here is the introduction of the 2017 Nissan Rogue Hybrid model. The gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain utilizes a compact Lithium-ion battery and a one-motor/two-clutch system.

The 30kW electric motor works with the Rogue Hybrid's 2.0-liter engine to increase fuel efficiency without compromising performance. Official numbers haven't been released, but projections peg the hybrid variant at 33/35/34 mpg city/highway/combined for the FWD model, while AWD models are estimated at 31/34/33 mpg.

Perhaps best of all, the hybrid powertrain doesn't compromise interior roominess. It loses just 0.2 cubic feet behind the first row of seats and another 1.1 cubic feet behind the second row. The 2017 Rogue Hybrid is only available with two rows of seats.

In the growing compact crossover SUV segment, Nissan is surely eager to offer another variant to carve out market share. The Rogue Hybrid will face stiff competition from rival Toyota's hybrid RAV4.

2017 Nissan Rogue Pricing and Availability

Nissan projects that the Rogue will soon overtake the popular Altima sedan as the brand's top-selling vehicle in the U.S. market. These enhancements for the 2017 model year should help it remain a hot seller in the compact SUV market.

Nissan hasn't released pricing for either the 2017 Rogue or the Rogue Hybrid yet. The 2017 Nissan Rogue will be available in early November, with the hybrid coming by the end of the year.
