As with other 2017 BRZ models, under the hood the 2.0-liter Boxer engine receives a number of internal updates including new valves, camshaft and cylinder heads. Along with a new aluminum intake manifold and redesigned exhaust manifold for better airflow. Since the only transmission offered in the special edition will be a 6-speed manual, like the rest of the manual lineup, horsepower is bumped to 205 hp and 156 lb.-ft. of torque – an increase of 5 hp and 5 lb.-ft. of torque over 2016. Manually-equipped models also receive a lower final drive ratio from 4.1 to 4.3:1to help improve acceleration.
