It does not predict the likelihood of that crash. The Rollover Resistance Rating utilizes a "fishhook" maneuver which is a series of abrupt turns at varying speeds to see how "top-heavy" a vehicle is. The more "top-heavy" the vehicle, the more likely it is to roll over. The lowest rated vehicles (1-star) are at least four times more likely to roll over than the highest rated vehicles (5-stars). |
2007 Mercury Mariner Review
The Mercury Mariner is a compact sports utility vehicle that is a single four-door, five-passenger SUV. The Mercury Mariner has three trim levels which include the Convenience, the Luxury, and the Premier. The Mercury Mariner is available as a 4X2 or a 4X4. The Mercury Mariner trims come with standard 16" alloy wheels. The Mercury Convenience and the Mercury Luxury come with a standard 2.3-liter, I4, 153-hp engine. The Mercury Premier has a 3.0-liter, V6, 200-hp engine standard. A 4-speed auto transmission is standard on all Mercury Mariner trims.
The Mercury Convenience and Luxury have a single CD, MP3 playback stereo system with 4 speakers while the Premium upgrades to a MACH® stereo system with 7 speakers, 6-disc CD player, MP3 playback and speed sensing volume. Also standard on the Mercury Mariner Convenience are fog lights, driver and passenger airbags, leather wrapped steering wheel, cruise control, air, full power accessories, keyless entry, anti-trap and theft devices, intermittent and rear wipers, power adjustable exterior mirror, cruise control, steering wheel mounted controls, leather steering wheel, and tilt steering.

| Summary | Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2005-2008 Ford Escape hybrid electric vehicles manufactured October 13, 2003, to June 20, 2008, and 2006-2008 Mercury Mariner hybrid electric vehicles manufactured June 10, 2005, to June 20, 2008. The coolant pump for the hybrid system may fail resulting in the hybrid electronics overheating. |
| Consequence | If the hybrid electronics system overheats, it may shut down the powertrain, resulting in a stall-like condition, increasing the risk of a crash. |
| Remedy | Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the original Motor Electronics Coolant (MEC) Pump with an improved brushless pump, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on October 27, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 14S19. |

Frontal crash ratings: Driver: Passenger: Side crash ratings: Driver: Rear Passenger: Results based on a 35 MPH frontal crash and 38.5 MPH side crash. Results are reported in a range of one to five stars, with five stars indicating the best crash protection for vehicles within the same weight class. This test used driver and passenger belts and airbags. NHTSA ROLLOVER RESISTANCE RATING: The Rollover Resistance Rating is an estimate of your risk of rolling over if you have a single vehicle crash. It does not predict the likelihood of that crash. The Rollover Resistance Rating utilizes a "fishhook" maneuver which is a series of abrupt turns at varying speeds to see how "top-heavy" a vehicle is. The more "top-heavy" the vehicle, the more likely it is to roll over. The lowest rated vehicles (1-star) are at least four times more likely to roll over than the highest rated vehicles (5-stars). |
