The 2008 Mariner is a 4-door, 5-passenger redesigned SUV that is available in 6 trims, ranging from the I4 4X2 to the Premier 4X4. The 2008 Mercury Mariner I4 4X2 is equipped with a customary 2.3-liter, I4, 153-hp engine and the Premier 4X4 is equipped with a customary 3.0-liter, V6, 200-hp engine. Both Mercury Mariner trims have a standard 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. The Mariner comes with a 36,000mi/36 month basic warranty.

The 2008 Mercury Mariner comes with the following standard features: battery rundown protection, pre-wiring, front and rear power outlets, multiple safety airbags, ABS brakes, traction and stability control, stereo with CD player, keyless entry with multi-functional remote, vehicle anti-theft, power accessories, child safety door locks, intermittent wipers, rear wiper, tinted and privacy glass, power adjustable exterior mirrors, air-conditioning, trip computer, inside temperature gauge, tilt steering, halogen headlights, and fog lights.

Summary Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2005-2008 Ford Escape hybrid electric vehicles manufactured October 13, 2003, to June 20, 2008, and 2006-2008 Mercury Mariner hybrid electric vehicles manufactured June 10, 2005, to June 20, 2008. The coolant pump for the hybrid system may fail resulting in the hybrid electronics overheating.
Consequence If the hybrid electronics system overheats, it may shut down the powertrain, resulting in a stall-like condition, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the original Motor Electronics Coolant (MEC) Pump with an improved brushless pump, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on October 27, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 14S19.
