Talk of the direction that hybrid, electric, and fuel efficient car models are taking us in seems to be a popular topic these days. While these and other new cars for sale should play an expanded roll in the vehicle line up for many manufacturers, and should certainly be encouraged, these 40 MPG or more vehicles signal by no means the demise of the Sport Utility Vehicle.
Car buying for many of us is a function of economics. The more you can afford the more you will buy. If all anyone could afford at their local used car dealerships were micro cars then that's all we would drive. It still beats walking. If you can find cheap SUVs for sale then people will generally buy that.
The problem of finding cheap SUVs for sale on a site like LotPro is that generally, other people want them to. Ever tried to tailgate out of a coupe? It's not pretty. We want new cars for sale that will enable us, not confine us.
We have needs, getting around is the first one, carrying our kids, our stuff, some of these things some of us just cannot do in an import sedan. Sure it might get 40 MPG but if you have to drive two trips to get your stuff there how much do you save over that best SUV under 30000 that might only get 20 MPG?
Yes SUV's have already been forced to change. The best SUV under 30,000 now often means some trade off of power for gas mileage, or size for cost. Smaller engines, smaller sizes, and smaller price tags are the new movement, but as manufacturers hurry to catch up with advancements in sedan designs interest in SUVs will be regulated more and more to your local used car dealerships. Because until SUVs cost less to own, then we are left looking for ways to find them cheaper to buy.
