The question of safest new cars is an important one for families. The other important question for many is how much will that safety cost? Luckily, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has released the Top Safety Pick+ awards for the midsize sedan segment, and surprisingly the best safety rated cars are not the most expensive, in fact the majority of the cars are among the category of new cars under 25000 dollars.

The + indicates that these cars have passed the new small overlap test with either good or acceptable ratings. This new test has only be tested on the midsize moderately priced and luxury cars. As the IIHS runs the test on the other vehicles they will announce the winners for those segments accordingly.
