2003 Suzuki XL-7 Review
"Revised interiors mark the 2003 version of Suzuki's midsize SUV. XL-7 is basically a stretched version of Suzuki's compact Grand Vitara SUV with a 12.1-inch longer wheelbase and 19.1 inches of added length. It uses a larger version of Grand Vitara's V6. Manual and automatic transmissions are available. XL-7 offers rear-wheel drive or 4WD that must be disengaged on dry pavement but has low-range gearing. Touring and uplevel Limited models are offered. Five-passenger seating is standard. The formerly standard 3rd-row seat now costs extra and increases capacity to seven. ABS is standard on Limited, optional on Touring. A restyled instrument panel and revised center console cap the short list of '03 changes.

| Summary | Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 212, "Windshield Mounting." The windshield may not be properly secured to the vehicle body due to insufficient adhesion between the paint applied during the second-stage painting process and the paint applied during final-stage painting. If the windshield is not properly secured, it may separate from the vehicle during a crash, which could result in the ejection of unbelted occupants, increasing the risk of severe injury or death. |
| Remedy | Dealers will inspect these vehicles. Vehicles that are found to have insufficient paint adhesion will either have the problem remedied by repainting, or will be replaced, or repurchased and destroyed. The manufacturer has reported that owner notification is expected to begin during July 2003. Owners may contact Suzuki at 1-800-934-0934. |
