Tweaked slightly from last year, the 2020 Hyundai Kona retains its value proposition by offering an above average ride, reasonable fuel economy, a class-above interior, and a number of advanced safety features across all models. But it disappoints with fussy styling details, modest performance, and an upper trim with a price that’s comparable to much larger crossovers.
The 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, mildly freshened this year, continues to offer moderately good looks, a smooth ride, plenty of interior room, and an attractive entry-level price point. But a pair of mediocre powertrains return only average fuel economy, the cut-rate interior displays lackluster quality and, 10 years into its current model run, is another step behind competitors.
The 2019 Mazda Mazda6 continues to impress with a gorgeous design, sharp handling, and responsive 4-cylinder turbo on the top three trims, while meaningful additions for 2019 include additional advanced safety features on the entry-level model plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on all but the base trim. At the same time, the infotainment software remains distracting, top trims are pricey, the ride is much firmer than rivals, while a manual transmission is no longer available.
The 2019 Hyundai Tucson receives a refresh, and continues to impress with a broad selection of trims, active safety tech, an excellent warranty, and the brand’s solid value proposition. At the same time, it’s let down by average fuel economy, unexceptional performance, and numb steering, while the widest range of safety features are only offered on the top trim level.
