Chrysler delivers two Grand Cherokee SRT8 Jeeps to Scuderia Ferrari drivers Alonso and Massa

European delivery

Courtesy of parent company Fiat, Jeep has managed to acquire two new very high-profile owners.

Earlier today at the Fiorano circuit in Maranello, Italy, two specially-prepared 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8’s were presented to Scuderia Ferrari Formula One drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa.

The matching custom-built Formula One Grand Cherokees are distinguished by a Rosso Corsa paint job, Ferrari’s signature color.

Exterior

Exterior embellishments include a matte black seven-slot Jeep grille with custom red inserts up front, below which a “race-inspired” black stripe with white accent begins at the front bumper as it travels over the hood, roof, and rear spoiler, ending at the rear bumper.

Messieurs Alonso and Massa should also appreciate the matte black painted dual-pane sunroof and carbon fiber mirror caps as well as the gloss black rear light bar with red accentuating the “Jeep” logo.

SRT lowered the ride height 1.5 inches and both Grand Cherokees feature 20-inch black-painted forged aluminum wheels.

Topping it all off and in homage to Ferrari’s F150 degree Formula One car, a painting of the Italian flag resides on the underside of the rear spoiler.

Interior

Not content with simply massaging the exterior, the black leather interiors of both Jeeps have been enhanced with Ferrari Red leather inserts on the sculpted and bolstered front seats, with the same rosso color adorning the door trim panels, central armrest and instrument panel.

The black leather SRT8 steering wheel (with mounted paddle shifters) is set off with its own contrasting rosso stitching while the instrument cluster features yellow dials giving it “the look of the GT cars produced in Maranello” (their words, not ours).

"We're excited and proud to be able to share 'Ferrari-style' custom-built versions of the most powerful and best handling Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 ever with two of the most talented drivers in the world," Beth Paretta, Director of Marketing and Operations – SRT Brand and Motorsports said. "We know that both Fernando and Felipe will feel right at home in our ultimate performance SUVs.”

European availability

It seems that soon the two Ferrari drivers will not be alone in owning SRT versions of the Grand Cherokee. According to Chrysler, the SRT8 that both Fernando and Felipe’s Jeeps are based on is set to arrive in Europe and will be available at Jeep new car dealers beginning this summer.
