Provided he has a Land Rover Discovery Sport, Santa is now able to transport a custom vacation cabin wherever he goes and stay comfortably warm even during harsh winter weather.

That's because Land Rover, together with Danish Architectural firm LUMO, has engineered and fabricated a one-off cabin that is designed to withstand temperatures as low as minus 4 degrees (-20 degrees Celsius) – especially for Santa.

According to Land Rover Vehicle Package Team Leader Helen Ali, "We wanted to create a Christmas cabin for Santa, in a truly Land Rover way. The spacious and versatile Discovery Sport was perfect for this project. The seats can be folded flat at the push of a button from the load space, which is wide and square and there are plenty of hidden storage spaces like the area under the front cup-holders."

That "Land Rover way" meant starting with a virtual model of the Santa Christmas cabin that utilized every square inch of the Discovery Sport's cargo area, since the entire structure would have to fit inside in order to be completely transportable. Once that exercise was complete, Land Rover engineers collaborated with Danish architects LUMO, a firm that specializes in fabricating dwellings from sustainable materials.

Muhammed Malik, a Land Rover packaging engineer that helped design and build the Discovery Sport cabin noted that "Anything that wears the Land Rover badge has to be capable and versatile, with beautiful, simple design. Our cabin also had to be sustainable and easily transportable. We are used to working with VIP clients at Land Rover, but this was definitely one of the most unusual."

In order to test the "capability" of the portable Land Rover Santa cabin, it was subjected to sub-freezing in Land Rover's cold climate chamber by mountaineer and 12-time Mount Everest climber Kenton Cool. Following a successful completion of this test, it was transported by a Discovery Sport to a secret location described by the manufacturer as somewhere "in the heart of the frozen wilderness."

In addition to the cabin, much of the rest of the Discovery Sport's various nooks and cubbies were utilized to transport additional materials: the glove box, cup holders and door bins were packed with nuts, bolts and festive decorations "fit for Santa himself."

The Discovery Sport Santa cabin, itself, which measures 37.7 square feet (3.5 square meters), is described as being "cozy" and shares a number of features with the Discovery Sport including an optional tailgate seat and wide horizontal door opening inspired by the Sport's panoramic glass roof. Santa's new digs also features a roof-mounted solar charger, while interior lights and a water kettle can be connected to the Discovery's 12-volt power outlet.
