Model and option package pricing has been announced for the all-new CX-3 subcompact crossover from Mazda
Mazda sport utility vehicles
Just in time to take advantage of the hot crossover segment, Mazda's newest vehicle, the subcompact CX-3, will join the compact CX-5 and midsize CX-9 when it hits dealer showrooms sometime in mid August of 2015. But since its North American unveiling just ahead of the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show last year, nary a word has been uttered in the way of vehicle particulars.
That situation changed earlier today, when Mazda released pricing, option and powertrain information on its upcoming small ute.
2016 Mazda CX-3
Engine and transmission
For the Mazda cognoscenti, probably the most important bit of information has to do with what lies under the hood. The 2016 CX-3, it turns out, will come with just one engine here in the U.S.
That would be Mazda's 2.0-liter Skyactive-G 4-cylinder that, in the CX-3, will produce 146 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 146 lb-ft of torque at 2,800 rpm. It will also be mated exclusively to a 6-speed automatic – making the CX-3 the smallest Mazda lacking the option of a manual transmission.
In front-wheel-drive configuration, that combination results in an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 29 mpg city/35 mpg highway/31 mpg combined. Meanwhile, models equipped with Mazda's i-ACTIV AWD net an EPA-estimated 27/32/39 city/highway/combined miles per gallon.
The new CX-3 will be available in three trim levels.
The entry-level Sport model will come standard with power windows, power locks, remote keyless entry with push-button start and a rear view camera. Also standard is a 7-inch color touchscreen integrated with Mazda's commander control knob and Mazda Connect app-based infotainment system, along with Bluetooth hands-free phone pairing and audio streaming.
The CX-3 Touring trim adds leatherette-trimmed cloth seats (heated in front), blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, advanced keyless entry, heated outside mirrors, a center armrest and leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter.
An optional Touring Technology package adds a moonroof, rear cargo cover and Sirius and HD radio.
The CX-3 Grand Touring trim comes standard with a moonroof, navigation, adaptive front lighting, head-up display, leather and lux suede two-toned seat trim, Bose premium audio system (with Sirius satellite and HD radio), cargo cover, paddle shifters and LED headlights, fog lights, daytime running lights and tail lights.
The optional Grand Touring i-Activesense package adds Mazda radar cruise control, smart city brake support, smart brake support, high beam control system, lane departure warning system, rain-sensing wipers and auto on/off headlights.
