How about a Gucci Cinquecento to go with that purse

Style and history

Here at LotPro.com we knew the confluence of Italian automobiles and Italian fashion would happen at some point in time, but how quickly it is upon us now that Fiat has reestablished itself on our shores.

Style and history; Never let it be said that Italians can be found lacking in either one as a year “that sees the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy and Gucci’s 90th anniversary, these special editions of the Fiat 500 and 500 Cabrio have been customized by Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini in partnership with Fiat's Centro Stile.

To celebrate the results of this heavenly alignment, Fiat puts it thusly:

In the 50s, the Fiat 500 created a style revolution when it first hit the road. It quickly became the must-have car of its time. Travelling in style has also been at the heart of Gucci ever since Guccio Gucci founded his company as a producer of leather trunks, suitcases and handbags in 1921. So, when Lapo Elkann suggested the idea of this collaboration it struck me as a perfect opportunity to create a new modern travel statement in Gucci's 90th anniversary year,” said Frida Giannini.

Fiat 500 by Gucci

With Gucci as our design partner, we’ve amplified the Italian style of our Fiat 500 with unique exterior and interior looks that will make the car truly unique on the road,” said Laura Soave, Head of FIAT Brand North America. “This special edition adds dimension to the Fiat 500 portfolio and will appeal to North American customers who appreciate Italian style just as much as modern technology, value and fuel efficiency.”

The Gucci-fied 500’s will be available either as a coupe or Cabrio in either black pearl-glass with bright chrome or white pearl-glass with satin chrome accents (mirrors, door handles and hood spear). The over 30 mpg black version will come with a black/white interior, while its white counterpart will feature a contrasting ivory/black interior “for a softer, sophisticated look.”

But it doesn’t stop there.

Gucci’s signature green/red/green web stripe will run either along the beltline perimeter on the coupe, or lengthwise down the cloth roof of the 500 Cabrio. And speaking of signatures, chrome “Gucci” ones can be found on the door frames as well as the hatchback, while 15-inch alloys will sport interlocking “GG” hubcaps and reveal lacquered “Gucci green” brake pads.

But wait, there’s more!

Inside, "chic embroidery, exclusive materials, glossy and satin chromes, the velvety varnish on the 'radioboard,' the two-toned seats in Frau leather with the Guccissima print. Premium leather accents are also found on the interior door panels and on the hand-stitched leather-wrapped steering wheel, finished in a two-tone ivory and white combination."

Aside from that frou-frou, a six-speed automatic is standard on every Gucci 500 along with Fiat’s BLUE&ME hands-free technology, SIRIUS Satellite Radio, Bose audio system, power sunroof, automatic climate control, security system, power windows, power locks, power heated mirrors, cruise, fog lights and vehicle information center.

Surely that’s not all?

Don’t call me Shirley, but Gucci has also created the “500 by Gucci collection” available online and in Gucci stores that includes such niceties as “travel accessories, small leather goods, drivers, tracksuits, bombers, driver gloves, sunglasses and a watch.” Fantastico!

So there you have it. Expect to see the 2012 Fiat 500 by Gucci models at Fiat new car dealers in December.

Questo è tutto. Arrivederci.
