The General's Bowtie division will unveil an all-new Traverse crossover at the 2017 North American International Auto Show on January 9th in Detroit.

According to Geoffrey Chaucer, "Time and tide wait for no man." Nowhere is that statement truer than in the auto industry. Consider this: in a market gone crazy for any and all sport utility vehicles, the current Chevrolet Traverse has actually experienced a downturn in sales compared to last year.

At least part of the blame lies with the fact that, other than a minor facelift in 2013, GM has barely touched the Traverse's overall design since it went on sale in 2008 as a 2009 model. Counting the 2017 model, that's 9 years without a major update – which, in the cutthroat full-size crossover segment, might as well be a lifetime.

But it appears that now it's the Traverse's turn to receive a complete makeover as, earlier this week, Chevrolet issued a press release to that effect along with a single teaser sketch.

According to Chevy, the brand will reveal the second-generation Traverse on January 9th during media days at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Describing the 2018 Traverse as "a bold and refined design with seating for up to eight," the press release went on to state that the new model is "expected to offer the segment’s best third-row legroom and maximum cargo space."

The 2018 Traverse will also feature new design cues and new technologies that will include optional "D-Optic" headlamps that are said to provide a more natural daylight effect.
