At the 2016 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), Nissan used the stage to show off its Titan Warrior Concept.

Last year at NAIAS, Nissan debuted the 2016 Titan XD. This year, the Japanese automaker unveiled the Titan Warrior Concept.

Although it's only a one-off, the Warrior created plenty of buzz in Detroit, and it's easy to see why. It is hard not to stop and stare at this massive beast of a pickup. It's humongous, imposing, flashy and bold - basically, it's the Titan XD on steroids.

Nissan pickups have long been accused of looking too "plain." Perhaps they were tired of hearing this, because this concept is far from it. It's a long way off from mainstream styling, but that's exactly the point Nissan is trying to make.

Although the 2016 Titan XD just started to hit showrooms last month, the Titan Warrior Concept does prove that Nissan is fully committed to its mainstream pickup.

Bold and Beautiful

Nissan has a long and storied history of off-road racing, and the Titan Warrior Concept honors that heritage. This American-built beauty is a performance off-road pickup that’s adventure ready.

Nissan dubbed the concept's outer layer "modern armor" and it perfectly fits that moniker in its gray, black and burnt orange color scheme. Its menacing look is further accentuated by an enhanced grill, custom LED lights and flared front and rear fenders.

Compared to the XD, the Warrior  is three inches taller and six inches wider. It rides on a completely new suspension with hydraulic pressurized bump stops, and on massive 37-inch-tall tires.

Other differences include a large skid plate at the bottom of the front fascia, a quad-tipped exhaust system that's integrated into the rear bumper and hood vents to help pull heat away from the engine compartment.

Speaking of the engine, the Warrior Concept is powered by the same Cummins 5.0L turbodiesel V8 found in the Titan XD, paired with a  six-speed Aisin automatic transmission.

Interior

To compliment the aggressive and rugged styling of the exterior, the Titan Warrior Concept was given a stylish, premium interior. Nissan conceived a cabin designed to handle the wear-and-tear that comes with an off-road adventure while still allowing passengers to feel comfortable.

The polished, "chronograph" look, as Nissan calls it, fits its active performance theme. The seats are high-strength fabric and the interior's color scheme is in sync with that of the exterior.

The steering wheel is custom built from a single block of aluminum. Auxiliary toggle switches for additional off-road accessories are integrated into the center stack that help the driver easily monitor truck performance.

The pickup comes with built-in tool and first-aid kits, and unique hot-and-cold drink containers have been added to the center console.

About the Concept

The Nissan Titan Warrior Concept was created by Nissan Design America in La Jolla, California. We may never see this bad boy in production, but we can certainly say that this is the best looking Titan yet.

Even if it's never built, it is entirely possible that we will see some of its features on future variants and configurations of the Titan and Titan XD.
